Wayne the Boat Guy is a YouTuber with thousands of followers and two million views across multiple social media platforms. He has posted over 300 videos about repairing, powering, and maintaining small boats. What makes Wayne’s videos appealing is that he’s new to building boats, and he isn’t afraid to ask or answer the mundane questions!

In this new video, Wayne shares the joy of building, finishing, and launching a brand-new Jimmy Skiff.

In his Jimmy Skiff video series, Wayne asks—and answers—all the questions beginners often have.

Wayne’s dream to build a Jimmy Skiff started when he visited Chesapeake Light Craft a couple of years ago. He picked up a CLC catalog on that visit and fell in love with our Peeler Skiff, but ultimately decided to take on a smaller project. He talks about that visit in this video.

Wayne started by building a Skerry scale model kit. Building a model gave him the confidence to build a bigger boat. He chose to build the Jimmy Skiff, which usually consumes about 120 hours.

Wayne got a big head start by assembling his Jimmy Skiff in a WoodenBoat School class at the Chesapeake Light Craft shop in Annapolis. In just five-and-a-half days, he walked away with a completed hull needing only sanding and painting to finish. In an earlier video, he explains the work required to prepare the hull for his Interlux paint and varnish application. Watch the ten-video Jimmy Skiff II playlist here to learn more about his boatbuilding journey.

If you are like Wayne and interested in building your first boat, we can help you get started!
