sanding disc consumption
Posted by Peter Lyons on May 9, 2004
When doing the heavy sanding of fill coats, I found that I wanted to change the discs pretty frequently. If memory serves, in the Zen of Kayak Building video (or was it in the Notes from the Shop?), John Harris recommends a new disc after sanding two or three feet of the boat. I would agree with that as a decent rule of thumb.
Sometimes when I really want to be doing some serious sanding, I'll change the discs even more frequently, but will save the lightly-used ones for a later, less aggressive sanding job.
