I glued them on with thickened epoxy and held them in place with 1" finishing nails driven only part way in. Once set, I removed the nails, filled the holes with plastic wood and coated with unthickened epoxy and varnish. Perfect with nail sites only barely visible. BTW, I am forgoing rubrails on my current project.
