the table saw cut scarf joints have a lot more variability in gaps than the 4mm ply so it really matters that the joint is CURED and the epoxy is gap filling. I've seen some sheerclamp scarfs with restarted blade cuts so it's worth dry matching the sheerclamps to get a sense of how much gap filling will be required. Did you use thick enough epoxy or move the sheerclamps around too soon? What you had happen is not rare,,,it's also possible for some odd grain in the sheerclamps to make for marginal strength when swinging long spindly parts around or spreading them apart.
