Ahhh, that would be me. It's my story, and I stick to it.
Maple, even rock maple, always glues up cooperatively enough using wood glue. Epoxy is similar enough that it oughta work fine as well. I pick my wood primarily for appearance, and as far as I am concerned, pine looks great. I have been using ash mostly because I ran across a great 14-foot 4/4 board for a song.
