I confess,,I left it out on three boats. It's to eliminate the chance of the deck flattening out there during installation. You can ensure the flattening out is minimal by ensuring there isn't any extra hard epoxy underneath the foreward deck scarf joint (depends on the model where the joint is located),,,,then lay down a damn towel on the foredeck in the last 3' of the deck. That'll make the deck bow up a little extra while nailing.
