Butt Joins
Posted by David Wallace on May 25, 2004
G'day , I'm new here and just about to start on a Mill Creek 16.5 , this will be my first CLC design but my sixth or seventh boat , canoe or kayak , what I want to ask is about butt joints and Butt plates , while I regularly scarf framing timber and some of the more narrow pieces of thicker ply my ability to scarf thin ply like 4mm is totally nonexistent , a dismal failure and a waste of marine ply , so can I get away with using butt joints and butt plates on the MC16.5 ? I figure I can get away with using butt joins and taping the join with out any problem but wasn't sure about the butt plates
Regards David Wallace
