Another thought. When I taped my deck, I first used straps (or ropes) about every 2 feet (that's where you can hot glue the blocks) then LOTS of tape. Please make sure each length of tape goes past the centerline and it picked-up by its mate on the other side. Essentially the tape goes completely around the kayak. I started from the cockpit and worked towards the ends.

I built a 19' yak totally witout assistance (just to see if I could). If there was one step where I would ask for another pair of hands - its this one. My deck turned out perfect, but I was as stiff as a plank for two days.
