Charlie,
Fairing boards are simply 11' plywood boards which will take 11 by 4 1/4 inch sheets of sandpaper glue-sticked to them. They are just a way to spread the abrasive action over a longer, wider flatter surface than a ROS.
Someone (unfortunately I can't remember who - sorry!) has a great picture of his two handed board which I found to be the ultimate. Hope he's reading this!
