Paint and Varnish

I have decided to add a little paint to my Ch. 18, but don't really know where to start. If I paint first and then varnish the whole boat will the Schooner varnish give the Brightside a yellow hue. I would prefer not to have to remask and carefully go around the paint with an Artist brush.
