Okay, another newbie here so forgive my ignorance, but wouldn't it be better to do the "cowboy rescue" thing and drain the cockpit while sitting on the stern deck. Vice trying to use the bilge pump while still in the water I mean. Obviously this will only work if the boat isn't completely swamped. But let's say there are a couple inches of water in the cockpit wouldn't it be easier to climb on the aft deck and sit cowboy while using the bilge pump?
