If there is any way at all you can try your first few rolls in shallow water (achtung: not TOO shallow), it will help immensely, I think. It was a comforting thing for me to be able to admire the scenery the first time I went inverted, and really helped keep that panic feeling minimalized (hey, yer s'pposed to *abandon ship* in the event of a capsize, any sane person knows that). Anyway, the clear, shallow water should make recovering the glasses easy if the strap doesn't quite do it.
