I'll defer to someone who finished the MC 16.5 a bit more recently, but my two year old instructions (rev 6/99) say to cut the deck out about 1 inch too large and "The cockpit opening should also be cut a bit proud and trimmed flush later." Later " . . . glue and and screw the back coaming piece to the aft bulkhead." So it seemed that trimming the deck flush to the aft bulkhead was the only way to go. Dave
