I have a SOSpender manual Co2 model (with pockets, very nice to have!) that I use for fishing, and it's just the thing for those HOT summer days. But I always wonder if the SOB's actually gonna turn in a flawless performance when I *really* need it. Kinda like that flashlight in the kitchen drawer when the power goes out: oops, dang! where are the matches...
At any rate, I believe any kayaker ought to have a full flotation type PFD, even a cheap one, as a backup. And I say this because I believe any kayaker ought to get in the water at some point and find out what it takes to rescue his or her self.
