John,
If you want the cool pattern of say, a silk cloth on the deck, and are not looking for any strength, I say go for it. If looking for the much added strength of 2 to 4 oz fiberglass, do that first and maybe add the silk after the first fill coat. Just make sure the epoxy is sanded very smooth - no drips or bumps.
I don't know how well the epoxy will penetrate the silk to bond it to the deck . You should certainly test on scrap first.
Who knows, you may be on to something here, but please wait for the others to weigh in.
