I prefer a narrow guage shotgun to ward off the green flies.
Now those of you familiar with the mid-Atlantic coastal pine swamps will know about the yellow deer flies. Bite like greenheads, but have a venom that makes the wound swell and itch. Dastardly critters.
Ahhhhhhhhh, the great outdoors.
