Anchor Types
Posted by Kurt Maurer on Jun 24, 2004
I have to interject here that whatever type of anchor you choose will eventually - as you learn from experience - have a lot to do with your particular environment.
A simple weight will serve admirably if you have no wind or current or anything else keeping you from using a simple weight (I wouldn't know, as I have never experienced these sorts of conditions). I have no idea what you would use for a rocky bottom, ain't got none o' dem here needer.
Smooth sandy or muddy bottoms in shallow, tide-driven waters, with ever-present 15 mph steady breezes above would be my scene. Folding grapple anchors act much like drift anchors, only messier. A small Bruce, or Manta (same thing) is what is recommended, and I will vouch for it.
Sailboy, how do you stow your Danforth type??
Cheers, Kurt
