Not sure if I agree with you, Mark. If you're placing a steel cylinder against a steel can and get a spark, I'm not convinced the propane could not ignite. It may be true that one would have to be quite unlucky to get the right propane/air mix just when the spark occurred, but why risk having even a small flash that could startle you into dropping the open cylinder and starting a shop fire?
But I could very well be wrong in this regard. Won't be the first time.
And the stuff stinks, anyway
