If you haven't done any rounding of the sheer-to-deck edge yet, and are still considering a bright finish, how about rub rails? I swear more rub rails are installed to cover gaps and for their look than for actual protection. (Except for Terry Mcadams of course, who bashes his boats a lot.)
The rails will more than hide the gaps, and if glassed in with deck glass or even just epoxy, will add a fair bit of extra strength.
That 2 cents is worth 01.55 US.
