Hmm, any boat I have ever built (4) now, including the rebuild, has had dookie schmutz between all panels. That and all panels were seal coated before I jointed them with wire. The strength, however, comes from NOT getting any air in the joints and from doing a proper glass layout. From what I understand about the process, all wood should be covered in glue no matter where it is joined or what you have done with it. That is essential to keeping the wood sealed from moisture.
