For bigger set ups the power plane works fine with the hand plane doing the finish work. The power plane is too big to work right for the small scarfs on a yak. Here is a shot of the scarfs I did for my last project. Power plane, hand plane then sander. Scarfs were 4' wide (some 2' pieces set together too).
