Butt or scarf?
Posted by John Short on Oct 3, 2005
Like mentioned before, I am building a canoe for my first project. The plans call for the joint to be made at mid-point of the boat and for the joint to be a butt joint glass taped on both sides. Would it be better to make the joint at a different place and have it a scarf joint instead? If so, how do you go about making the joint? 3 or 4 times the thickness of the wood? My case 4mm, so would the scarfs be 12mm? Thanks all!
