You're right; more thin coats are really much smarter than a couple of thick coats. There are fewer runs and sags. But what's surprising is HOW MANY thin, non-sagging coats it takes to "fill the weave" on the fiberglass. It isn't four coats versus three; it's six or seven versus three. Here at the shop we simply never have the luxury of a whole week of fill coats. So we pour on the epoxy. It runs and sags. We sand. But we have nice sanding equipment so the whole process goes faster than waiting on thin coats to fill.
