I did a similar install as Dave, although heavier, since used mahogany strip rather than pieces just around bold area because I was concerned about the stress of foot pressure and wanted to maximize attachment surface to side of boat. I also did not have ready access to stainless t-bolts. I drilled out (all the way through at bolt diameter and 1/3rd at nut diameter) strip (~3/4" thick) for nut and epoxied in place (temporarily attaching brace to ensure nut alignment and then used a through bolt to fasten adjustable footbrace to the strip after epoxying strip to inside side of boat. rock solid and not too heavy.
