Re: wet sanding varnish

Jon,
You never said what grit sandpaper you were using. If you're using 400 wet or dry paper (wet, of course) and hand sanding (i.e. using your hand and not a sanding block)you shouldn't be taking off all the varnish. I use Epifanes High Gloss, seven coats top and bottom, wet sand in between. Builds up a nice finish.
