Re: wet sanding varnish

Using 400 grit--sanding by hand. It's just so hard to tell--in some spots looks like varnish is scuffed, in others, there are palm sized uniformly dull spots. Curious, though, any idea what one really needs for u.v. protection? I'm no longer after a coffee table finish--too much dust in the shop and nothing I can do about it.
