Butt joint with glass on both sides, and no butt block, relative to scarf joint:
(+) simpler to build (+) omitting the butt block gives a smoother floor (+) requires less plywood stock length
(=) extremly strong
(-) worse stiff spot, causing bends to be less sweet.
If the plans call for butt joint with both sides glassed, no butt block, I would do exactly that. I'm no expert, just a little old toxic-dust maker who tends to go by the plans.
