decorating

I want to custom paint my boat, my boyfriend would like to apply an image and we are looking for details about how to best accomplish this.What materials are best to hold the image, and what kind of inks. Ink jet?, on vellum, tissue, onion skin, decal materials,any experiences on which handles best, dissapears stays flat, etc. For custom painting which paint works best, over epoxy, and under glass. What about onto bare wood, or stain, experience with bleeding or paint reactions with the hardeners etc. Any good links to examples of decorated boats.
