I'm still a little confused, but a little less concerned. As you mentioned, to my untrained eye I can't really tell if one side is better than the other - I picked what look prettier to me - nice swirls in the grain and just a few, very small tight knots.

I trust my dealer in Toronto is selling the real thing so I'm not worried about quality.

It's not as easy as laying sod...green side is always up!
