Mac,
Drill 3/32 inch holes, instead, and simply use sharp wire cutters.
BTW, the smaller gauge steel wire will cut right through the okoume in the high tension regions.
And finally, at least on the 16 LT, you can initially leave off every other stitch with no trouble at all, even just using copper. Then only add in the remaining stitches where needed. I've still got almost 1/2 the wire that came with the kit.
