I cut my 20 gauge copper with side cutters which seem to naturally put a nice tip on each strand (good job for the kids). I use a 3/64" drill bit for the holes. The wire goes through very smoothly. But you're right with wiring while the bottoms up - I found out just how much my eye sight is failing as I age. A miners hat with a light probably would have helped. Good Luck!
