magnetic hatches?
Posted by Jamie on Feb 8, 2006
I am building an arctic hawk, and the flush hatches standard to the kit mount with a series of wooden toggles. While the design seems fairly secure, I can also imagine access to the hatches being a bit cumbersome, twiddling a bunch of knobs. I've read many people's positive reviews of hatch closures with rare earth magnets, which would also make for a cleaner appearance on deck.
While I love the idea of a complely flush hatch (or at least nearly so) I cannot help but be a little nervous at the thought of rolling a loaded kayak in rough chop, losing a magnetic seal, and foundering. Anyone care to allay my fears?
Any thoughts?
