Re: magnetic hatches?

From waht I could find on the rare earth magnets. it sounds like they would be best for this type of use, because of their incredible strength in comparison to their size. The larger the magnet, the larger the magnetic field it produces. Even the samllest rare earth magnets can have substantial magnetic strength, but because of their size, do not have a large magnetic feild. Could several small rare earth magnets bve enough to easily hold a hatch on, while not have a a feild large enough to disturb a compass?
