Rudder for Chesapeake 17

I am installing a CLC rudder on my Chesapeake 17 and recall reading where someone fabricated a couple of small teak wedges and cemented them to the aft deck where the cables exited. If you have used this method, could you give me a bit more information regarding the size and location of these wedges.
