Shop Vac Filters?

Anyone here connect their orbital (or other) sander to a portable shop vac? Does sanding epoxy require a different filter like sanding drywall? Will drywall filter work for this? Does this do any good?

Last project, I ended up with a white patina everywhere! I'd like to keep this from getting all over my small shop and getting back on the boat if there is a way.

Skerry is a bit more difficult for me to take outside for sanding and back in for coating each pass vs. the kayak.
