Wax paper is great for between stacked pieces. For instance when gluing up side panel scarf joints. Epoxy doesn't stick to it at all.
Clear packing tape works good for keeping excess epoxy off bare wood adjacent to scarf joints. Results in a nice clean joint. True it's a bit of a pain to pull off, and it will take a tiny bit of wood fibers with it, but not so much as to make any difference. In my experience.
