rice paper

I bought some rice paper yesterday and wet some out on a piece of scrap and I didn't get the same results that others have gotten. It didn't get very clear. More translucent than clear. You can see through to the wood but the paper is still very obvious. Maybe I have the wrong paper or am not doing it correctly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
