Re: Fading of wood

Any yachtsman with varnished mahogany on the boat will tell you that the wood becomes lighter coloured over time. Sometimes it starts almost dark reddish-brown when sanded and given the first coat, but ends up almost yellowish after some years. This is why many stain the mahogany in the first place: to keep the nice 'mahogany' colour for a longer time. The varnish will delay the fading, but even with 10-12 layers it will happen over time; after a couple of years only it's quite obvious. -- Niels
