Funny,

I just told my insurance company (USAA) what I thought was a conservative estimate of what the boat is valued at ($1500 based on time and kit cost) and they said nothing to me about it. Actually, because I store the boat at home, it was covered by my home insurance.

Of course I didn't spend the time and effort to build a passagemaker, which would probably up the requirement quite a bit.
