Alan:
I have just completed my second CLC kayak, a C-17(LT). Built a C-17 last year. For both I have painted the hull and varnished the deck. I used Pettit EasyPoxy one part polyurethane paint. It came out beautifully and unless you look very carefully you would think it was sprayed on. After carefully sanding high spots, filling low spots, and then doing final wetsanding with 220 to 320 grit level I applied three coats of the paint. I wetsanded the first two coats with 320 and then 400 grit for the last coat. I used a roller to apply the paint then tipped out the paint by lightly brushing to get bubbles and smooth doing about 18" sections at a time. Be sure to maintain a wet edge! I used Z-Spar Captains Varnish for the deck, 5 coats! Overall I am very pleased with the results. Hope this helps.
