Re: Rock Guard on GP

I've used epoxy thickened with silica and it worked fairly well, but eventually started chipping off taking chunks of wood with it. From now on my rock guards will either be glass reinforced, or hardwood (or hdpp) morticed, tenoned and epoxied on, or hardwood splined, or hardwood wrapped (steambent) around the tips and up the edges.
Wrapping the hardwood up around the edges will help in rockgardening and when playing deadfish polo.
Also Beale Paddles put a hardwood spline in the tip that helps prevent splitting and increases wear resistance.
