Hey. My $.00001 cents worth. I have been curious as to how efficient these paddles are and by the by, man are they ever! so, I carved me out a Greenland paddle out of a clear cedar 2x4 from Home Depot. Over this winter I plan to put tips on. Like you I am out of stock on whalebone, so I have access to some HDPE stock. I will Mortise or slot the tips of the paddle, epoxy and insert the HDPE tips and shape. The material I am using is from an old cutting board I found at a yard sale. How's that for being thrifty!
