Re: Turbos and Trailers
Posted by CLC on Sep 28, 2006
I used to tow a moderately heavy boat trailer with a 1988 Saab 900 Turbo. I made a point of not traveling to regattas that had a mountain range on the route.
Perhaps mechanically inclined Forum readers could speak to the physics of trailer towing with turbocharged cars. When the car's loaded down, the turbo will simply run longer and more often, and I suspect that's the issue.
But how "loaded" is a car towing a trailer that weighs less than 500lbs with payload? The turbos must be rated for hill climbing with four adult passengers in the car; do three kayaks on a Trailex trailer weigh more than that?
