talking about wiping down a coat of varnish, NOT epoxy. If you try wiping varnish with acetone the result will most likely be - no varnish:(
I used to use acetone also and still do to clean tools etc. In fact I dump brushes in either acetone or lacquer thinner between uses if , like today, I'm in the middle of a job. Filleted, and double taped the chines and transom of a 20 footer today. Between uses, the brush goes into the solvent. When finished, it goes in the trash.
