It can depend on the type of grab handle you plan to use. I like to use rope loops. I carve pieces of 2X4 to fit ,glue them in with lots of epoxy. I drill th hole for the rope oversize, then pour epoxy in the hole , then drill a new ,smaller hole the right size for the rope. this keeps water from getting into the wood. It makes for lighter weight and saves epoxy. Have fun!
