Chris has one good solution to the unravelling problem there. Another one, if you don't have enough glass to spare and must cut out pieces before applying them, is to outline the cut lines with tape. I use the blue paper adhesive tape and it works well.
Press it firmly onto the glass, centered on the cutting line. When it's all taped, cut down the center of the tape. You end up with a piece of glass edged in half-width blue tape, all the threads held captive. Now you use the technique Chris described above, just substituting your taped edges for the factory woven edges.
