deck glass

I've asked about the needing to glass the deck before, but curious if I can coat the deck with 2 or three coats of resin, and glass with 4 oz. later.

reason being, that I'm running out of time, and this was supposed to be a surprise b'day gift end of last month. Some schedule problems came up and kayak production got cut. Now it's a Christmas present. I know that I may have time to run the glass, but if something comes up, i would like to get somewhere near a finished look, and be able to put it on the water for sea trials, and for the recipient to be able to use it once.

I will of course 'glass and varnish later, but what are your thoughts?
