Sounds like you have a solution in hand, but thought I would quick relate that I tried using some of that thick inner with two thin outer veneers stuff for the foredeck of the CH14 I am building for my daughter. It cracked during the install (of course). In a fit of manly rage I punched my fist through it a couple times and threw it across the basement. Feeling better, I quick cut a new deck from some higher quality stuff and it went on like a dream. Too bad the rear deck was already installed because the two sheets are distinctly different colors. Oh well, lesson learned...
