I think just about every cedar readily available has been used to build strip or skin-on-frame kayaks. Western Red is on of the more preferred for strip and SOF. It also is the fist choice for making Greenland paddles. Not only is it light weight it also is beautiful under epoxy and varnish. Check out the other kayak building forums that discuss strip and SOF construction techniques in much greater detail. I would be more specific offline but this forum does not post your email address.
