reglassing hull bottom
Posted by Patrick Forrester on Jan 7, 2007
2 years ago I build a wr18 kit. It has a natural finish. Its a great boat. I was use to a plastic boat & have been quite hard on it. Nobody I know has done 1/10th the damage to their hull. The bottom of my boat is trashed. Its not just minor scratches. Some scratches are more like a gouges, where the fiberglass is shattered to the wood. It does not look good, and water is discoloring the wood. Now I want to fix this so it looks as good as original.
I think I will Sand the bottom of the hull down to bear wood, and re fiberglass it with 6oz cloth.
Is this a practical thing to do ? , Is 6 oz cloth what I should use ?
